YR I CONFIRMATION
(For those who are beginning confirmation preparation)

Teens in the 8th grade and above are invited to begin preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. YR I Confirmation gatherings take place twice a month on Monday evenings from 6:30-7:30 PM.

YR II CONFIRMATION
(For those who completed YR I confirmation during the 2022-2023 school year)

After completing YR I Confirmation, candidates begin their second year of confirmation preparation. YR II Confirmation gatherings take place approximately twice a month on Sunday afternoons from 3:00-5:00 PM.

What is Confirmation? ~ The Catechism of the Catholic Church
Baptism, the Eucharist, and the Sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the “Sacraments of Christian Initiation,” whose unity must be safeguarded. The reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For “by the Sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.” Catechism of the Catholic Church 1285

Teen Confirmation – The Invitation
Teens who are in the 8th grade and above are invited to prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Confirmation preparation is a two-year process that begins in the fall and culminates with the reception of the Sacrament in the winter or spring of the second year of preparation. The Confirmation team at St. Dominic’s Parish welcomes, supports, and challenges young men and women to deepen their relationship with Christ and immerse themselves more deeply into the life of the Church.

Teen Confirmation & Faith Formation

The Sacrament of Confirmation is a celebration of past, present, and future participation in the life of the Church. Before sacramental preparation begins in the 8th grade, candidates should have acquired a basic understanding of Catholicism through continuous participation in religious education. Candidates who wish to prepare for the sacrament should desire to deepen their relationship with God, grow in their faith, and attend weekly Mass.

Diocese of Sacramento – Teen Confirmation Norms

St. Dominic’s Confirmation program encompasses the norms provided by the Diocese of Sacramento. Candidates for Confirmation prepare their hearts and their minds for the sacrament by participating in gatherings, service projects and retreats, educational opportunities, personal reflection and prayer. All candidates are expected to attend weekly Mass.

Confirmation through RCIA
Adults who are unbaptized or baptized, but have not received the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation, are invited to prepare for these Sacraments through the RCIA program. For more information, please contact Shannon Carter at [email protected].

Adult Confirmation
Adult confirmation classes are offered twice a year at St. Dominic’s Church. This program is for adults who were baptized in the Church, have received First Holy Communion and attend weekly Mass, but were never confirmed. Those who have not received First Holy Communion should enroll in the RCIA program.

It is the parish’s responsibility to prepare candidates for Confirmation based on the four pillars of the Catechism, with a special emphasis on the Rites of Initiation. Candidates should receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation prior to receiving Confirmation.
